Having travelled to Germany, Austria and Switzerland and sampled many excellent varieties of beer, Kevin Robertson in collaboration with his wife, Cheryl and children Courtney, Rachael and Kelly, decided to realize a dream of opening up our own craft brewery – A business which we could be proud of, passionate about and which would buck the trend that had effected businesses since the 2008 recession!

And so the journey began in February 2012.

Although much valuable knowledge was gained from home-brewing books, it was necessary to elicit the help of an expert in this field. An acquaintance suggested we contact “Stephan Meyer” at Clarens Brewery. After a telephonic conversation, he invited us to “Kom maak ’n draai “.

One thousand one hundred kilometers later, Stephan, for three days, imparted as much knowledge as we were able to absorb and agreed to assist us with our venture. His enthusiasm and willingness to help, was most exhilarating and we returned to George elated as well as rather apprehensive at this new prospect. Two additional trips to Clarens were undertaken before we returned with our “Brew House” and 4 months later, with many calls to Stephan, our first batch of beer was brewed …. And promptly disposed of….! Practice makes perfect and eventually a successful batch of “Blonde Ale” materialized.

Licensed on the 21st September 2013, our business is steadily growing. We now strive for excellence in each batch of beer, with attention to detail and using only the best ingredients to produce “Hand Crafted Beer, Naturally”.

Very special thanks to Stephan Meyer of Clarens Brewery, my wife Cheryl and the children, for their insight and support in finally bringing “Robertson Brewing Company” to fruition.

The word “Outeniqua” in the Khoi Language means…

“They who bear honey”
but it will now be changed to…

“Bring me a beer, honey!”
